First thanks to my friend Kelly Hodsdon over at Intentional Internet for pointing this out to me. Now, for what I am sure is going to be the best news for keyword research this yearGoogle has just introduced real Google search volume into their keyword research tool. To the best of my knowledge this information has never before been available. Yahoo! had something similar in the past called Overture, but they killed the public version of this some time ago and even that was only for Yahoo! search volume so you had to guess what the volume at Google was.

What does this mean? Well among other things the paid keyword research tools out there may see a flood of cancellations. But what it really means is that you have one of the most powerful keyword tools out there at your finger tips and for free (the link above leads you to the free version for which you don’t even need an Adwords account).

Among the great things about the improved Google Keyword Tool is that they give you the numbers for how often the keyword or keyword phrase shows up in general searches, but you can also narrow this down to how often the word or term is searched on as an exact match as seen in this image:

Google Keyword Tool Exact Match Search Volume

Combine the data you get from the new and improved google keyword tool with Google Trends and you have a great strategy for keyword research.
