Go Live Before You’re Ready

I just signed up a client who will be a pleasure to work with. How do I know this? She isn’t even able to start offering her services for another year, she’s in medical school, but she’s already starting to build her Internet presence for her practice.  Why do this?  From an seo perspective there are several reasons.  Her domain will age which will be a good thing; pages will start getting indexed, and with a little help she’ll start gathering links.  There’s a good chance that she could have pages ranking well for her keywords by the time she is ready to start her practice.

Now maybe you’re thinking, “But won’t this just confuse people who come to her site?”  No, not necessarily.   What strategy can you put into play for your site if you’re planning a business that will have a website component, but you’re not ready to sell or take clients.  Here’s a hint they are very popular these days and you’re reading one.  That’s right – a blog.  Think of the advantages you gain by doing this.  You’ll be building content all the time you are getting ready to open your business and content is search engine gold.  You may also build a following of individuals who read your blog.

Waiting to launch a blog until your doors open is a huge waste of potential.  Leading up to your grand opening you can be using your blog to make announcements and build anticipation about your launch.  Hopefully, you aren’t thinking, “That’s great but what about when my business starts and I don’t have time to write in the blog anymore?”  but on the off chance you decide not to keep it up.  Your blog, if done correctly, can still be a huge reservoir of useful content which your visitors will very much appreciate, so you can’t loose.

The only cautionary note in this is to make sure that you have a blog that has been seoified, but that’s a topic for another time.
