Almost two years to the day after   Googlers Ryan Moulton and Kendra Carattini wrote about Google improving their analysis of links to prevent Googlebombs President Obama appears to be the latest victim of Gbomb.  Search the term failure in Google today and you’ll find the White House page at the top of Google’s search results. 

So other than if you’re a an Obama fan why is this important?  It simply demonstrates the power of anchor text in links.  Nowhere on the White House page for Obama does the word failure appear.  Conventional seo wisdom would suggest that without that factor the page should not rank first for the term failure.  The one exception is that if you get enough external pages to place a link where the text of the link is a particular word e.g. failure you can get that page to show up for that term.   Want to show up badly enough for a particular term?   Get enough links with that term in it pointing to your site or page and you stand a good chance of reaching a top position.
