Network Solutions Avoid it Like the Plague

In the handful of experiences I’ve had with Network Solutions, I can honestly say there has never been a good one.  Any time a potential client tells me they are using Network Solutions my thought is always the same, Oh that’s too bad.  To just groan on about them though wouldn’t be of much use to you the reader so let me give you an example.WordPress is both my blogging platform and content management system of choice.  It’s easy for the end user and its easy for the Web developer.  As a content management system you want it to reside in your root index otherwise known as your home index.  In this manner you can have WordPress controlling your www.mywebsite.com your about page would be www.mywebsite.com/about or something similar.  Network Solutions doesn’t allow you to do this.  They force you to create a directory so if you call your directory home your new home page will be www.mywebsite.com/home and your about page would be www.mywebsite.com/home/about.   This is less than ideal and absolutely unecessary.   Most good hosting companies have no such requirement.

What’s you’ve installed WordPress with their one button install and marked that you want to use it at your home page you cannot go back.  You cannot delete that wordpress install and you cannot undo the damage of having the home page in a directory other than the root.

This is just one such problem with Network Solutions.  My experience is that they force the user into similar situation with all of their products.  Their customer support has always been resistant when I’ve needed to move a client away from their steel grip, and to top it all off they tend to be more expensive than many of the competitors.  My recommendation, avoid Network Solutions like the plague.

    Hi Shashi,
Thanks for dropping by the blog. I am glad to see that Network Solutions is monitoring the blogosphere for reactions to your services.

It would be great if you wanted to leave a comment or make a guest post on why Network Solutions forces WordPress users to install in a directory other than the root directory and why you can’t undo setting it as a home page without going through customer support.

Or, if you think I have this all wrong and you want to provide readers with directions for how to overcome these problems that would be fine too.
